Well, this is exciting - I am currently on day 2 of my cycle, and I have not yet experienced a migraine! Yay!
All that I have had so far (on day 1 of my cycle) was a little bit of neck stiffness (that didn't last longer than 30 minutes), and a little nausea, which passed very quickly.
But - NO PAIN!!
I am very pleased, as you might well imagine if you have similar problems.
If you saw my last post a couple of days ago, you will have seen that I recently tested low for Vitamin D, so I have begun supplementation in order to raise my levels. This is the only change I have made, so it seems logical that this may have something to do with it.
I would like to suggest looking at Dr Stasha Gominak's website: http://drgominak.com/headache-migraine which explains much more about the link between Vitamin D/sleep/migraine etc.
Dr Stasha Gominak is also on YouTube (see links below) the content of her talk is fascinating and certainly explains a lot!
I will update again in a day or so, to let you guys know if any migraines pop up, but so far, it's all good news!!
Keep well!

PS, here's the clips of Dr Stasha Gominak talking about Vitamin D/sleep/migraine:

Congrats on this development! Unfortunately, I have been taking D since April 2010 (that summer, my level was at 42; I'm not sure where I am now), and it hasn't produced a significant change in my migraines. I continue to take magnesium; I've also tried various other supplements in the past with little relief. But of course, what helps you may be different.
ReplyDeleteI am curious that you mentioned neck pain--do you find that this is associated with migraines for you? I definitely seem to have increased neck/shoulder tension with my headaches.
Hello,
DeleteThank you!
Yes, I do find that my neck pain & stiffness goes hand in hand with my migraines. The neck pain normally precedes it.
It sounds like it might be worth re-checking your Vitamin D level, as the amount you're taking might not be enough to raise your levels significantly. How much is in your daily supplement? I plan on re-checking mine after 8 weeks to see if my supplement is strong enough.
Hope you get some relief from your migraines soon!
Lou
I believe we (got my husband taking it too, even though he doesn't get migraines) are taking a 1000 mg supplement of D3, although we also get D3 through are multi-vitamin, and we recently started taking a calcium-magnesium supplement that contains additional D3 as well. My migraines may just be more resistant...I have tried a lot of things! :o
DeleteI also had a strong menstrual pattern to my migraines (although I was getting them at other times of the month as well). This past August, I started taking a continual-type birth control (similar to Seasonale). That HAS worked to make the headaches less connected to my periods, although they are also less predictable now! :p But I keep trying...
Hi, have you watched Dr Stasha Gominak's videos on YouTube? She mentioned that she started her patients off on 1000iu, and none of them improved at that dose. Worth thinking about!
ReplyDeleteI'm taking 2400iu per day, but expect I may need to raise that at some point.
Hope the birth control helps out too.
All the best
Lou
Thanks for the follow-up! I might be getting about 1500 or more with my various sources, but maybe I'll trying taking 2 of the 1000mg pills & see how that works. :)
ReplyDeletethank you Lou. I suffer from the exact same thing as you. It puts me out 3 days a month. Its been about 12 years. Tried everything in the book, but not this yet. I watched Dr Gominaks. Wow fascinating. It all adds up. I am exited to try this. Thanks for the info.
